BMW boosts charging network

BMW New Zealand has increased its number of public charging locations for electric vehicles (EVs) with the unveiling of new BMW Wallboxes at The Heke, a restaurant, brewery and distillery on Waiheke Island.
The site is the latest to feature the marque’s 22kW chargers, following installations at golf clubs, luxury resorts and hotels across the North and South Islands.
The company’s goal is to offer charging options throughout the country and it has recently installed Generation 3 BMW Wallbox chargers at Manawatu Golf Club, Hastings Golf Club, Manse Luxury Lodge and Millbrook Resort for BMW customers and drivers of other compatible EVs.
BMW NZ, which offers 10 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), also partnered with ChargeNet seven years ago to create a network of DC fast-charging stations
While in 2022 it entered into a partnership with EV charge point operator Jolt to assist in the rollout of free, fast-charging options nationwide.
The developments come as sales of fully electric BMW vehicles increase, with registrations in 2023 increasing 47 per cent from the year prior.
