Back-to-back records for Australia

There were 109,966 registrations of new vehicles in Australia last month, which set a new industry record for August.
The figure was an increase of 15.4 per cent from the 92,256 units sold in the same month of 2022 and takes year-to-date registrations to 788,584.
It follows a new record for July also being set this year after 96,859 sales that month, according to figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
Tony Weber, chief executive, says back-to-back months of record-breaking sales for the industry was positive news for manufacturers and consumers.
“The Australian automotive sector continues to demonstrate its strength, with August recording unprecedented sales figures, reflecting both a high level of demand from Australians and improved supply of vehicles.
“Year-to-date sales have increased 9.9 per cent which is a better indicator of the underlying strength of the market.”
Toyota’s Hilux, pictured, was the best-selling model in August with 5,762 units, followed by the Ford Ranger on 5,760 and the Toyota RAV4 on 3,317.
Completing the top five was Isuzu’s D-Max with 3,281 registrations and the MG ZS on 3,193.
Toyota was top of the marques’ ladder with 22,321 vehicles sold. Next was Mazda on 8,458 units, Ford with 7,898, Hyundai on 6,513 and Kia with 6,510.
The FCAI says battery electric vehicles accounted for 6.4 per cent of the new-vehicle market last month and hybrids for 10.5 per cent.
