Audi NZ and ABB join forces
Audi New Zealand and ABB New Zealand have joined together to offer charging points in Audi dealerships nationwide, offering both AC and DC charging solutions.
ABB is the global market leader in electrification technology with over 12,500 fast charging stations installed in 70 countries around the world.
Audi New Zealand with ABB have developed a rollout plan of 50kW and 175kW ABB chargers across the Audi dealer network.
To ensure a premium charging experience, Audi has chosen to go with the ABB Terra 54 charger as a base. This charger offers a 50kW DC charger which delivers a full 400km charge in 2 hours. A small number of Audi Authorised dealerships across the country will be installing the ABB Terra HP high power charging units. These are 175kW DC chargers, enabling the Audi e-tron to be charged up to 80 per cent in less than 40 minutes.
The Audi e-tron is the first fully electric vehicle from the brand with the four rings which will utilise this charging infrastructure. The full-size SUV has two electric motors with a total output of 300kW and 664Nm of torque and has a 0-100kph of 5.7 seconds.
It will cover over 400 kilometres on a single charge and is the first series production vehicle that can charge at fast charging stations with direct current (DC) at up to 150kW. It is also comfortable charging its 95kWh battery at home using normal 240 volt AC power in a “top up“ scenario.
On June 6, hundreds of professionals from utilities, industry and transportation and infrastructure sectors gathered at the ABB Technology Summit held at SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland, where attendees were able to get a first look of the all-new Audi e-tron.
It was hooked up to ABB’s new high power charger which has charging power available from 175kW up to 350kW - a first of its kind for ABB in New Zealand.
“Being able to offer our customers world-class levels of charging capabilities is part of the premium customer support we have in place for our Audi e-tron customers” says Dean Sheed, general manager, Audi New Zealand. “We expect other brands to follow our lead thereby raising the charging capability for the country and keeping us at a world-class level."
“ABB New Zealand is proud to partner with Audi in New Zealand to provide the latest EV charging technology,” says Ewan Morris, managing director, ABB New Zealand.
Audi New Zealand and ABB New Zealand will be showcasing their technology together next at EVworld from August 9-11 at ASB Showgrounds, Auckland.
