Advice on CCD errors

The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) has highlighted some common mistakes to avoid when it comes to lodging applications under the clean car discount (CCD).
The feebates scheme will end on December 31 – with 11.59pm on that date being the deadline for rebates to be submitted to the NZTA.
And, on December 13, the transport agency warned: “We’re currently receiving high volumes of rebate applications. Our rebate processing time is 20 working days. We’ll email you when your application is being assessed.”
VIA says common mistakes on application forms to steer clear of – and avoid the risk of rebates not being paid – include no GST numbers on business applications, and missing sale-and-purchase document or bank-account evidence. Others are:
• Supplied application evidence is unreadable or has incomplete or inconsistent information.
• People ticking that they are a public authority when this is rarely the case because most are not.
• The registered party is not the person making the application.
“VIA has been monitoring the progress of legislation to repeal the CCD scheme,” states the association in an email alert to members.
“We have been working with the ministry and agency to get clear, relevant and timely information about this out to the industry. We are not expecting the fund to be in danger of being exhausted before all rebates are paid by January 31.
“There are no exceptions to eligibility criteria and timeframes. Shipping or certification delays are not accepted reasons for late applications.”
VIA’s alert lists the key points for car dealers to remember. They include that no CCD fees or rebates apply to vehicles registered after December 31 and “there will be no exceptions” to the NZTA paying rebates after January 31.
Correct applications for rebates for eligible vehicles should submitted as soon as possible to avoid missing out. New VEEEL labels will be available from January 1 and must displayed on yards or online from that date. The clean car standard is not changing at this time.
Car dealers should also be prepared to answer customers’ questions about what’s happening in the run-up to and after the end of the year, as well as advising them to get into their applications for rebates to the NZTA before the CCD is scrapped.
In addition, there have been widespread reports of would-be buyers deferring purchases on fee-attracting models until the new year and warnings that the impact on EV sales may be severe. Click here to apply for rebate.
