The animal kingdom has long been a source of inspiration for companies when it comes to naming vehicles and now a full A-Z guide of cars named after creatures has been put together.

The list, which starts with ant and ends with zebra, features a range of beasts.

Autocar curated the motoring menagerie and the Mazda Bongo, pictured, is one of the more surprising entries – the van being named after the world’s third-largest antelope.

The rundown also includes a cobra, eagle, leopard and tiger, a mythical creature, or people may prefer the more timidly named Reliant Kitten.

Volkswagen’s Golf even gets a mention as its name was inspired by an employee’s favourite horse.
