WRX gets top safety rating

Subaru’s WRX and WRX STI have earned a top safety pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). They earned the highest possible rating of “good” in all tests – front and side crash, evaluations in rear impacts, roll-over and small front overlap. The WRX was launched in two variants at the end of March and the STI will be launched at the end of June with pricing to be announced. Subaru’s other current models – the Legacy, Outback, Impreza, XV and Forester – have already gained top safety picks from the IIHS in North America. The new small front-overlap test has proven difficult for many compact cars. It replicates what happens when a car’s front corner of a car collides with another vehicle or an object, such as a tree. In it, 25 per cent of a car’s front end on the driver side strikes a rigid barrier at 70kph.
