Wraps off ute concept

The PRO-4X Warrior concept has been revealed by Nissan as part of its campaign for the all-new Navara D27.

It provides a look-see of what the next Warrior could deliver when combined with the capability of the ute’s new platform.

Developed with Premcar – Nissan Australia's engineering partner for the Warrior programme since 2019 – the concept showcases design thinking around enhanced off-road capability and styling cues.

It’s based on the range-topping PRO-4X grade of the all-new Navara and features a comprehensive suite of enhancements.

Since launching with the Navara N-Trek Warrior in 2019, the Warrior by Premcar programme has delivered more than 12,750 locally remanufactured vehicles across the Tasman, establishing itself as the benchmark for factory-enhanced pick-ups designed for local conditions.

The concept demonstrates how this philosophy could evolve with the advanced platform capabilities of the D27 Navara.

“The Warrior programme has always been about understanding what Australian ute buyers need,” says Bernie Quinn, chief executive of Premcar. “Not just what looks good in a showroom, but what delivers capability enhancement on-road and off. This concept explores how we can apply six years of learnings and feedback to the D27 platform.

“The new Navara provides an exceptional foundation with its redesigned chassis and sophisticated suspension architecture. This concept demonstrates how Premcar’s approach to suspension tuning, wheel and tyre optimisation, and capability enhancement could elevate the D27’s already impressive performance.”

The Navara PRO-4X Warrior concept features a package of proposed modifications that build on the new Navara PRO-4X grade. It has a lifted suspension system featuring front coil springs and dampers, and a wider track via after-market 17-inch wheels for extra stability and presence.

The 32.2-inch all-terrain tyres provide increased ground clearance and off-road capability, while the suspension tuning has been optimised for loaded and unloaded conditions.

The protection package includes an enhanced bullbar design, extended front overriders for improved approach angle protection, unique light bezel and wing undercovers.

Then there are integrated fender flare extensions on bullbar, a multi-stage underbody bash-plate system a 3,500kg-rated towbar, and two rear recovery points complementing the existing factory front points.

Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Nissan Oceania, says: “I’m excited about the possibilities the new Navara platform presents. It has been engineered to deliver exceptional capability. Seeing how that foundation could be further enhanced through collaboration with Premcar is exciting.”
