Van Gisbergen extends lead

Shane van Gisbergen has extended his lead in the Supercars championship to 281 points after a win and two second-place finishes in the Winton SuperSprint round.

The New Zealand driver enjoyed an intense battle with Cameron Waters across the qualifying sessions and the three races held over May 21-22.

Waters climbed up the championship standings after finishing the weekend with two victories and a second spot.

“Both Cam [Waters] and I were pushing really hard this weekend, and he just got us,” says van Gisbergen, pictured.

His fellow Kiwi, Andre Heimgartner, also secured a podium finish at Winton when he came third in the final race of the round.

The drivers next head to Darwin on June 17-19, with Van Gisbergen leading the series from Anton De Pasquale in second and Waters in third.
