Van Gisbergen extends lead

Shane van Gisbergen has extended his lead in the Repco Supercars Championship to 338 points with four rounds of the campaign left to go.

The Kiwi star built on his advantage over Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Jamie Whincup after collecting a first, second and fourth-place finish in the Sydney Supernight round over the weekend.

He describes the results as a “good weekend overall” and says his victory in race 21 came after a “mega first lap and an awesome pit stop”.

“The boys did an awesome job which gave us track position and we managed to run down the other cars,” he explains.

“That race was a real team win – the guys did a great job with the strategy.”

Anton De Pasquale took the chequered flag for Shell V-Power Racing in the weekend’s other two races.

Van Gisbergen, pictured, remains the hot favourite to clinch the title with the drivers returning to Sydney Motorsport Park next weekend for the second of four consecutive events at the venue.

The Supercars season will wrap up on December 5 with the Bathurst 1000.
