Used vehicle sales increase
Used vehicle sales increased to 8,545 in October – after dropping the previous month – with small cars dominating the charts. The total was a 24.4 per cent increase on the same month in 2012 on 6,867 sales. The Nissan Tiida was the best-selling model on 420 units, followed by the Mazda Axela on 416. Taking out third spot was Suzuki’s Swift on 405. Nevertheless, Toyota still had the largest share of the market, at 23.5 per cent last month, followed by Nissan with an 18.2 per cent share with Mazda just behind on 18 per cent Graeme Macdonald, chairman of the North Island branch of the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association, says it’s good to see the market recovering with last year’s “latent demand” finally being filled as demand increases before Christmas. He says the increase in the number of small car sales could be due to fleet buyers preparing for the summer rush. Macdonald expects the market to stay buoyant through to December. “It depends on what the industry decides to do – we could have good numbers in November, buying in Japan is good and the exchange rate is favourable.”
