Giltrap completes Geely deal

Giltrap Group has signed a deal to become the official distributor of Geely Auto’s vehicles in New Zealand, further strengthening its ties with the Geely Holding Group.

The Chinese brand joins Giltrap’s broader Geely portfolio, which already includes marques such as Volvo, Polestar and Lotus.

Li Lei, chief executive officer of Geely Auto Australia, says: “New Zealand is crucial to our global expansion, and we are excited to strengthen our presence and partnerships here.

“The alliances we’ve established with a leading distributor like Giltrap Group will be pivotal to Geely’s sustained growth and reputation in the region.”

An official signing ceremony for the partnership was held in Sydney, Australia, and attended by Michael Giltrap, joint managing director of Giltrap Group, and senior executives and representatives from Geely Auto, including Li and Evin Ye, deputy general manager of Geely Auto International Corporation, business director of Asia-Pacific region.

Giltrap says his company is proud to partner with Geely, which “combines world-class engineering, striking design and outstanding value”.

“This partnership allows Giltrap Group to bring their brilliant range of vehicles to New Zealand,” he adds. “The combination of our great team and our expertise as an automotive distributor and retailer will deliver the best Geely experience to Kiwi drivers.”

Geely Autos offers New Zealand customers a range of power trains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, range-extended, petrol, and fully electric vehicles (EVs).

“To give our customers a genuine choice across every type of energy efficient vehicles has never been more important, as our country has unique requirements with the distances travelled and sometimes remote locations that Kiwis live or holiday in,” notes Giltrap

The Geely EX5, pictured below, a mid-sized EV, will be the first model to enter the New Zealand market and is slated to be launched in 2025.

Geely says it plans to establish an extensive network covering showrooms across major cities and regional areas in 2025 to support its long-term commitment to New Zealand.
