There was a notable decrease in used commercials last month with 940 units sold – down by 15 per cent decrease on May 2018’s total when 1,106 units were registered in New Zealand.

Year to date, it appears the used-commercial sector is on a similar trajectory as 2018 with 4,734 registrations – a three per cent difference compared with 2018’s 4,881.

Toyota remained on top with 446 sales for a market share of 47.4 per cent. Its Hiace claimed the biggest market share of all models with 35 per cent thanks to 329 registrations.

Nissan came second on the marques ladder with 218 units for a market share of 47.4 per cent, while Isuzu finished third with 51 units and 5.4 per cent.

The Nissan NV200 was runner-up in the models’ chart with 55 sales for a 5.9 per cent share, while its Caravan came third with 48 registrations and 5.1 per cent.

Most regions recorded drops in used-commercial sales last month compared with May 2018. Blenheim led the way with a 53.8 per cent fall – from 13 registrations in the same month of last year to six last month. It was followed by Nelson and Rotorua, which showed decreases of 36.7 and 34.8 per cent respectively.

Despite this, Timaru had a good month – up 30 per cent from 10 registrations in May 2018 to 13 last month. Invercargill also performed well – up by 17.6 per cent.
