Transport group goes digital for AGM

Intelligent Transport Systems New Zealand (ITS NZ) has decided to make its annual general meeting an online-only affair because of the Covid-19 alert level two restrictions in force across the country.

Members and prospective members are invited to attend the event, which is being held from 3.30pm to 5pm on September 3, via their computers or devices.

Simon McManus, executive officer, will open the meeting with reports to follow from chairman Mike Rudge and president Stephen Hewett.

ITSNZ will also outline its 2020-2022 business plan, deliver its financial report and there will be a report from the organisation’s Young transport Professionals, Amy Strang and Armin Guttke.

Transport innovators

Victoria Carter, a board member of the NZTA, founder of CityHop and a former Auckland councillor, will be the keynote speaker at the Auckland Transport Innovators – Young Transport Professionals event on October 7.

The forum will see transport innovators share their visions, stories and outlook for the future. It was originally due to be held immediately after the ITSNZ AGM on September 3 but has been postponed until the later date.

Other guests joining Carter, pictured, include Dr Mahmood Hikmet from Ohmio/HMI Technologies, Shannyn Hiroti, business development manager at Mooven, and Cleve Cameron, founder of Big Street Bikers and Locky Docks.

The event will be held at the Beca Auditorium, 21 Pitt Street, Auckland, from 5pm to 7pm.

Speaker series

Benjamin Sovacool is the latest expert for ITSNZ’s speaker series and will discuss the future of vehicle-to-grid technology and the potential barriers to its full deployment.

A professor at the University of Sussex in the UK, he will deliver a Zoom webinar entitled “V2G Vehicle to Grid – Beyond Electric Mobility” at 9am on October 8.

It is claimed large scale uptake of vehicle-to-grid technology could reduce emissions, create revenue, and accelerate the adoption of battery-electric cars.

ITSNZ says such technology connects the electric power grid and the transportation system in ways that will “enable electric vehicles to store renewable energy and offer valuable services to transmission operators”.
