Trade Me launches safety filter

Trade Me has launched a new search filter to allow consumers to search for vehicles by safety rating after working closely with the NZTA.

The safety ratings, compiled by the NZTA and published on the Rightcar website, indicate the likely performance of a vehicle in a crash and range from one to five stars.

Alan Clark, Trade Me’s head of motors, says the company has worked closely with the agency to help drivers stay safe on New Zealand roads.

“The safety of our members has always been a priority for Trade Me which is why we’re stoked to have done this great piece of work with the NZTA,” he adds.

“We hope that this new feature will allow Kiwis to make safety-conscious decisions when purchasing their next vehicle.”

Fabian Marsh, senior manager road safety at the NZTA, says the increased visibility on Trade Me is a “huge win” for its Safe Vehicles programme and “a great step to ensuring people think about safety when they are purchasing a vehicle”.

Clark says Trade Me looks forward to seeing how people interact with the tool and how it may be developed in the future.

The safety ratings being used show the current rating – either from Ancap, based on crash test results for new cars, or UCSR or VSRR, based on real-world crash data compiled by the Monash University Accident Research Centre over the past 30 years – for each make and model of vehicle.
