Ford extends NZ line-up

Ford New Zealand has announced two extra models will be joining its product range in this country.

Customer deliveries of the all-electric Transit City van, which is described as “the next evolution of the Transit family”, will begin in January 2027. It will be priced from $58,990 plus on-road costs.

The Bronco Basecamp, meanwhile, is an adventure SUV powered by the company’s first super-hybrid extended-range electrified powertrain.

Slated for local release in the second half of next year, the aim is for the Bronco, pictured, to accelerate the blue oval’s presence in the fast-growing electrified SUV segment when it arrives in the second half of 2027.

The model launches were announced at Ford Uncovered, a major media and dealer event held in Melbourne on September 9.

At the event, Ford revealed its ambition to double its coverage of the New Zealand vehicle market and refresh two-thirds of its existing line-up, both within three years, to give customers “more choice and stronger support, no matter what they drive a Ford for”.

Annaliese Atina, managing director of Ford NZ, says: “For 90 years, Ford has been part of the fabric of everyday life of New Zealanders, helping to build this nation and standing beside them during good times and bad. This event was about showing what’s next for our customers. We’re just getting started."

The announcements build on a strong track record of sales. The Ranger has been New Zealand’s best-selling vehicle for 10 consecutive years and is number one year-to-date. The Everest leads the large SUV segment and Mustang is Aotearoa’s best-selling sports car.

Atina adds that strength is the platform for bigger ambitions. “Today, we only play in around 30 per cent of the market. Our ambition is to double that to more than 60 per cent within three years.

“Ford also aims for more than 90 per cent of its volume sold to be all-new or significantly refreshed by the end of 2030. We’ll do this by broadening our portfolio, and bringing in more zero and low-emission vehicles.

“What makes us different is choice backed by a brand and a trusted dealer network. Customers deserve the peace of mind of a local legacy, global footprint and one of the country’s largest service networks.

“Local knowledge, global reach innovation and trust have always defined Ford in New Zealand backed by more than 28 dealers nationwide and decades of grassroots community partnerships.”

Atina says that same “spirit” now extends to how Ford sources its vehicles, drawing on a global footprint to bring customers the best vehicle at the right price and speed, without compromising the brand’s “unique DNA of driving dynamics and capability”.

“The best is ahead and our customers will be the ones who benefit. The next chapter of Ford in New Zealand is exciting and there’s more to come.”
