Toyota’s global output dropped 12.9 per cent to 795,862 vehicles in June with the year-on-year drop its sharpest decline since December 2022.

It marks the fifth consecutive month of falling production for the Japanese carmaker after being hit by a certification scandal in its domestic market and a price war in China, reports Reuters.

The company’s output of Toyota and Lexus models was down by 18.8 per cent in Japan alone when compared with June 2023, while in China it fell by 21.7 per cent.

Production levels for the marques in North America and Europe slipped by 6.2 per cent and 6.6 per cent respectively over the same time frame.

Toyota has reported its worldwide sales also fell 5.1 per cent in June to 853,082 units.

In the first six months of this year, global production of Toyota and Lexus vehicles came in at 4.6 million units, which was down 5 per cent on the same period of 2023. Worldwide sales were also 0.9 per cent lower at 4.9m.
