Toyota production back to normal
Toyota has announced the manufacturing of its vehicles will get back on track in December, with its factories in Japan returning to normal for the first time in seven months.
The world’s top-selling carmaker hopes to start making up for production lost this year because of supply shortages of parts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Toyota plans to make about 800,000 vehicles globally in December, up from about 760,000 a year earlier.
The marque has made repeated adjustment over previous months to its production schedules, with a number of plants closed for certain periods when Covid case numbers were peaking.
“The global production plan in December is expected to reach the 800,000 units level including the recovery from the impact of the previous production cutbacks,” says Toyota in a statement.
“In response to the continuing shortage of some parts, we will continue our efforts to strengthen our supply chain with our suppliers and will do everything we can to ensure we deliver as many cars to our customers as quickly as possible.”
Toyota still hopes to churn out nine million vehicles worldwide during the financial year ending on March 31.
