BMW launched the all-new 2019 X5 on Tuesday. This is the fourth generation of BMW’s flagship SUV since its debut in back in 1999.
Its worldwide market launch will begin in November 2018. A spokesman from BMW NZ says that they are planning on a launch in New Zealand at this time as well.
The X5 has been a major success for BMW with more than 2.2 million vehicles sold worldwide during its production run.
The new X5 will be available with either a 335 horsepower inline-six-cylinder engine or a 456 horsepower V8.
The newly developed eight-cylinder unit under the bonnet of the BMW X5 xDrive50i delivers a maximum output of 340 kW/462 hp and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft). And the new BMW X5 xDrive40i is powered by a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine developing a maximum 250 kW/340 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft).
According to BMW, the six-cylinder xDrive40i can do 0-100 kmh in 5.3 seconds while the V8 xDrive50i can do the run in 4.6 seconds.
Both engines are hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The new SUV is set to be the first to feature BMW's latest iDrive infotainment technology called 'BMW Operating System 7.0'.
The X5 will also be available with a range of tech features including a backup assistant that takes over steering while reversing, a pair of 12.3-inch high-definition digital displays, and active drivers’ assistant systems.
Final model range, specifications and pricing for the 2019 BMW X5 will be announced closer to November of this year when it arrives in showrooms worldwide.
