Tesla "raises the bar" for what people have come to expect from their cars with a new update that includes upgraded entertainment, gaming and convenience features.

Version 10.0, Tesla's "biggest software update ever", is starting to be rolled out across the US, via an over-the-air software update.

Software version 10.0 introduces updates to the touchscreen and Tesla app for an improved, more entertaining user experience. With the introduction of full-screen video support, Tesla Arcade updates, plus map and driving visualisation improvements.

"Sing along with friends, visit surprise destinations and discover your new favourite restaurant for the most adventurous experience on wheels.

"Enjoy a classic run-and-gun action game optimised for Tesla or stream your favourite movies to your touchscreen with immersive sound while charging," the electric vehicle manufacturer said in a statement.

"With improved maps, it’s now easier to discover, navigate and calculate distances when searching for a destination. In addition, updates to driving visualisation allow you to temporarily adjust view angle and zoom for greater visibility around your car.

"To receive this update as quickly as possible, make sure your car is connected to Wi-Fi. You'll automatically receive version 10.0 when it's ready for your car based on your location and vehicle configuration — there is no need to request the update."

However, not all updates will reach New Zealand, says Emily Findlay, Tesla communications manager. "On background only, Tesla Theatre in Australia and New Zealand include Netflix and YouTube, and currently, we are only rolling out Smart Summon to the US market. We are working to bring it to other markets soon."

Autofile Online has reached out to Tesla New Zealand to confirm when the update will reach New Zealand.
