Festive fun with parody ad
’Tis the season for carmakers in the United States to be ramping up their advertising and many commercials show spouses surprising their loved ones with a new car.
However, such generosity is a pipe dream for many and the TV show Saturday Night Live poked fun at such campaigns, particularly Lexus’ December to Remember adverts, with its own festive parody.
The skit from 2020 by Beck Bennet, Heidi Gardner and Timothee Chalamet satirises some of the end-of-year branding by marques and highlights why one shouldn’t necessarily just buy a new vehicle and have it wrapped in a bow, reports Carscoops.
An idyllic family Christmas scene soon deteriorates as the initial surprise of a new car wears off, and the wife says: “Are you f---ing kidding me, Nathan? Did you seriously buy a car without asking me?”
The laughs continue as things unravel further for the hapless husband and the rest of the family before the sketch ends with the tagline: “Give the gift of Lexus, definitely talk it over first”.
