Tesla Model S transforms into hearse
People often say that when they die, they want to go quietly. Well now they literally can after a collaboration between companies in the UK and Germany has transformed a Tesla Model S into a hearse.
The creators of the Coleman Milne BINZ.E claim the all-electric hearse “fulfils the rising customer demand for eco-funerals”.
UK-based Coleman Milne and German company BINZ International joined forces to make the BINZ.E, which is based on a Tesla Model S and has a range of 350km between charges.
The vehicle has been extended from 4.97 metres to 5.82m, and the roofline at the back has been raised to 1.72m – up from 1.45m – to accommodate a coffin. The wheelbase has also been stretched to 3.8m to maintain the car’s balance.
Keeping with the electric theme of the Tesla hearse, it has a power-operated boot lid and an electrically extending coffin loading deck. It also features a pop-out storage compartment for the coffin-handling trolley, which ejects from the side of the vehicle.
Lee Hudson, managing director of Coleman Milne, tells Auto Express the BINZ.E represents the perfect hearse for a sustainable future.
“As attitudes among policymakers and the general public shift towards greater environmental sustainability it is important that the funeral sector takes stock of its own approach to climate change,” he explains.
“The BINZ.E shows it is possible to deliver efficiency and elegance in harmony with social change.”
No price for the vehicle has been confirmed, but funeral directors in the UK can arrange test drives of the demonstrator vehicle.
