Te Waiti urges check-ups

Steve was admitted on May 17 “not feeling a hundred” and, after a series of blood tests had been carried out, it was discovered he had had a heart attack sometime earlier. The damage to arteries was so significant that a bypass is the only option.

Steve’s advice to others in the industry is. “If you’re feeling like something’s wrong, it probably is, so see a health professional and get it sorted”

While waiting in hospital, Steve received a surprise visit from the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Health Minister David Clark.

We wish Steve all the best for a speedy recovery.

Would you know the symptoms of a heart attack?

Signs of a heart attack can vary hugely between men and women and symptoms won’t necessarily follow predictable patterns.

Some of the more common signs experienced by both sexes include chest tightness, pain or pressure in the chest, neck, jaw, arms or back, unusual fatigue, shortness of breath, and nausea and vomiting.

Other symptoms more common in men include muscle weakness, breaking out in a cold sweat and dizziness. Those more common in women are sleep disturbances, indigestion, anxiety or a sense of dread, and jaw pain. Visit www.heartfoundation.org.nz for more information.
