Surge for used imports

There were 9,641 used-imported cars registered in November, which was up by 35 per cent compared to 7,144 in the same month of 2022.
Toyota’s Aqua topped the models’ ladder with 1,768 units – a jump of 66.5 per cent from 1,062 in November last year – and a market share of 18.3 per cent.
The marque’s Prius was second with 1,180 and Nissan’s Leaf third on 479, up from 600 and 206 units respectively a year ago.
Toyota’s Corolla was the next best-seller with 412 units and the Nissan Note, pictured, completed the top five with 368 registrations.
There were substantial percentage increases for all models in November’s top 10, except for the sixth-placed Mazda Axela, which saw its sales drop 21.5 per cent from 409 to 321.
So far this year, 102,122 units have been sold overall. That’s down by 1.6 per cent compared to 103,785 over the same period of last year.
Year to date, the Aqua remains top of the pile with 16,072 units and 15.7 per cent of the market. The Prius is next on 10,781 and 10.6 per cent, followed by the Axela on 4,719 and 4.6 per cent.
Toyota was the leading marque last month recording 4,763 registrations, which was an increase of 78.2 per cent from 2,673 in the same month of last year. This gave it a 49.4 per cent slice of the total market.
Nissan was second with 1,458 units, up by 64.2 per cent from 888 a year ago, and a 15.1 per cent share.
Mazda, Honda and Subaru completed the top five with 924, 643 and 406 registrations, respectively.
Toyota’s share of the year-to-date market for used-imported cars stood at 43.1 per cent after clocking up 44,058 registrations in 11 months.
It was ahead of Nissan’s 14,728 units and 14.4 per cent market share, and Mazda with 12,225 and 12 per cent.
