Small electric package
Smart has revealed its Concept #2 minicar ahead of the production version’s debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
The two-seat, fully electric model has no launch date as yet. The brand’s current line-up includes the #1 and #3 full-electric compact crossovers, and the #5 midsize electric SUV.
Wolfgang Ufer, chief executive of Smart Europe, describes the concept as “a vehicle shaped by the way customers truly live and move”.
The #2 is being built on a new platform called ECA. It will have “nearly” 300km of range, which is about average for the electric minicar sub-segment. The Hyundai Inster offers up to 370km and Fiat’s 500e comes in 320km.
Charging time is less than 20 minutes from 10-80 per cent with a DC fast charger, although Smart hasn’t specified speeds or battery size.
Smart, which positions itself as a premium brand in Europe, hasn’t given a potential price for the #2, but the Inster starts at around €25,000 (about NZ$49,000).
