Nissan is promising more comfort, connectivity and safety in the new Pathfinder despite the latest version of the vehicle going back to its “rugged roots”.
The all-new 2022 Pathfinder will go on sale this year and comes 35 years after the first model hit the market.
It will be offered in 2WD and 4WD and in four trim levels – S, SV, SL and Platinum. Two packages – SV Premium and SL Premium – will also be available with more details due to be released later in the year.
Jared Haslam, vice-president, product and services planning, Nissan North America, says: “Thirty-five years after the launch of the original model, Pathfinder has returned to its rugged roots, loaded with the benefit of everything learned along the way.
“Today’s large SUV owners want a vehicle that conveys strength and rugged capability, while using advanced safety and technology features to keep their family safe and comfortable during every-day adventures, and the all-new 2022 Pathfinder is ready to take on those adventures.”
The latest version pays homage to the original Pathfinder with a three-slot grille incorporated into the vehicle’s V-motion grille.
Under the bonnet is a 284-horsepower, 3.5-litre direct injection V6 engine matched with a new nine-speed automatic transmission.
The 4WD models feature Nissan’s Intelligent 4WD with seven-position drive and terrain mode selector, which includes standard, sport, eco, snow, sand, mud/rut and tow.
A new dual-pinion electric power steering system combined with wide, 255mm tires provides stable handling with a sporty feel.
On the inside, there is a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and 10.8-inch head-up display, along with an available nine-inch colour touchscreen centre display offering easy visibility and accessibility for the driver and front passenger.
Nissan says seat flexibility has been improved with standard eight-passenger capacity or, for the first time on a Pathfinder, the option of second row captain’s chairs wand a removable centre console.
Standard on all grades is NissanConnect featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while additional available features include NissanConnect with Wi-Fi Hot Spot, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and Bose Premium Audio with 13 speakers.
Every 2022 Pathfinder comes equipped with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes a raft of features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and more. Ten airbags are also standard.
The SUV wll be available in 14 colours, including five new two-tone treatments.
