Rooney’s clean sweep

Jackson Rooney dominated the penultimate round of the Toyota 86 Championship after winning all three races at Hampton Downs.
He led from lights to flag in the final race of the March 16-17 meeting to finish ahead of Tom Bewley and William Exton respectively and secure maximum points for the weekend.
“It was good, I had a lot of pressure from behind, but we worked on the car overnight and that flicked a bit of a switch on performance and we were able to chip away from there,” says Rooney, pictured front. “We had great race pace.”
The Kiwi driver had earlier topped the podium in race two, with Exton second and Hunter Robb in third, while in the opening clash he beat Exton and Bewley to the chequered flag.
Rooney’s successful weekend has lifted him to fourth in the drivers’ standings on 723 points.
Bewley is the championship leader as the series prepares for the final round at the Taupo International Motorsport Park Supercars event from April 19-21.
However, he only holds a 10-point advantage over Exton and Robb is a further 56 points back in third.
