Recall for hundreds of Highlanders

Toyota New Zealand is recalling 744 Highlanders after detecting a potential problem with the seat-back frame on certain vehicles.

The safety alert applies to some units built between December 2019 and June 2021 and is described by the marque as a precautionary measure “to confirm and, if necessary, modify the seat-back frame”. It adds not all vehicles in the model years are involved in the recall.

“The subject vehicles are equipped with front seats which are constructed with a certain seat-back frame,” the company explains.

“Certain specific points on the seat-back frames were not manufactured with the minimum radius criteria.”

Toyota NZ says affected vehicles will be inspected and, if required, the seat-back frame will be repaired free of charge.

Owners of Highlanders impacted by the recall will be contacted by Toyota NZ by letter.
