Rebate tips for dealers
The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) is reminding dealers to act fast and register cars that qualify for a rebate under the clean car discount (CCD) before December 31.
The advice comes as the government plans to scrap the feebate scheme by the end of the year as part of its 100-day plan, with an amendment bill to repeal the CCD introduced to Parliament on December 12.
Malcolm Yorston, VIA’s technical support, says: “As has happened on previous occasions, there may be a rush to register vehicles due to upcoming legislative changes and there is a possibility some areas may run short of registration plates.
“VIA suggests you make sure you have vehicles that qualify for the rebate registered so you are not held up later in the month wanting to register a vehicle so your customer can claim the rebate by December.”
The association’s email alert on December 13 adds that NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi has been advised of the risk of a registration plate shortage so it can ensure there are sufficient numbers of them available in the regions.
Members with any questions can contact VIA on 0800-842-842 or email info@via.org.nz.
