Progress on power units
Nissan has showed the all-solid-state battery pilot line it is building at its Yokohama plant in Kanagawa prefecture to members of the media.
Its aim is to further promote development and innovative manufacturing technologies for the batteries.
Under its Ambition 2030 vision, the company aims to launch electric models equipped with the batteries by fiscal year 2028.
All-solid-state batteries, which may become game-changers for EVs, have the potential for energy density of about twice that of conventional lithium-ion units.
This could mean significantly shorter charging times due to superior charge and discharge performance, and lower costs due to less expensive materials.
Nissan plans to use such batteries in a wide range of segments, including pick-up trucks, making its EVs more competitive.
It is conducting wide-ranging research, from molecular-level battery material research to electric-vehicle development, and even city developments using EVs as storage batteries.
