Outlander updates plug-in hybrid

The all-new Outlander range will include an updated plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model.

Mitsubishi says the crossover SUV will be rolled out in Japan in the second half of this fiscal year and is expected to arrive down under in early 2022.

It will feature the marque’s new-generation PHEV system with improved motor output and increased battery capacity over the current model for more power and range.

Based on the newly developed platform, integrated components and an optimised layout allow the new model to accommodate seven passengers in three rows.

The twin-motor, four-wheel-drive system in the plug-in forms part of the marque’s aim for a 40 per cent reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions from its new cars by 2030.

The Outlander PHEV made its global debut in 2013. Since then, it has been sold in more than 60 countries.
