Optimus Group has announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Autopact, one of Australia’s largest privately owned dealership groups.
The global automotive business, which in New Zealand owns a number of companies including JEVIC NZ, Nichibo and Vehicle Inspection NZ, says the acquisition will “accelerate its strategy of growth”.
Autopact operates 28 dealerships, representing 35 brands, in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and services the volume, premium, luxury and commercial vehicle segments.
Optimus Group, which is headquartered in Japan and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, notes that completion of the deal will expand the company’s footprint in the Australian market and align with its global strategic direction.
Currently, the group has automotive investments in Australia covering data, logistics and retailing.
It says taking over Autopact will position the company to support its OEM partners in expanding across the ditch, especially with the growth in the electric vehicle segment.
Nobuya Yamanaka, president, adds: “Optimus Group has a global business model in the automotive sector, with operations spread across Japan, New Zealand and Australia offering a full complement of end-to-end automotive solutions.
“Our planned acquisition of the Autopact business will provide the opportunity to expand our route to market into Australia in line with the growth ambitions and strategic direction of the group.”
