Nissan has announced it is stopping production of its R35 GT-R after nearly two decades of production.

The carmaker is no longer taking orders for the model in Japan, the last market it was available in after being retired in Europe, Australia and the US in recent years.

The R35 supercar, powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, was launched in 2007 and had been nicknamed Godzilla.

It’s unclear when production will end but remaining stock is now sold out in Japan.

A Nissan statement says: “We have received many orders for the Nissan GT-R and have now finished accepting orders for the planned production quantity.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our customers for their support since its release in 2007.”

The move marks the end of a supercar that has fallen foul of changing regulations in recent times.

New European noise rules forced Nissan to drop the GT-R from the market in July 2021, while stricter side-impact standards in Australia brought new sales there to an end in November 2021, reports Motor1.com.
