Nigel Thompson behind bars

A car dealer has ended up in custody after police laid a further charge while he was on bail on tax and dishonesty charges
Nigel Terrance William Thompson was refused bail by judge Tony Couch at Christchurch District Court on May 29 when charged with dishonestly using a woman’s bank card.
Thompson had been on bail on other charges that he has denied. Those charges are heading for case reviews on June 10 and July 17, which was the next stage on the way to trial.
The 45-year-old faced a new charge this week laid by the police representatively, reports Stuff. This alleged the bank card had been used 28 times dishonestly during April.
Defence counsel Craig Ruane sought Thompson’s release on bail, but the judge refused and remanded him in custody to appear again on the same date as the first case review.
Thompson had interim name suppression while he was charged with tax and dishonesty offences last year, but this suppression was lifted in December.
