New-vehicle sector soars
Registrations of new cars came in at 17,302 during June ahead of the feebates scheme changing on July 1. That was up by 81.4 per cent from 9,537 in the same month of 2022.
The Toyota RAV4, pictured, topped the models’ ladder with 1,496 units for a year-on-year jump of 333.6 per cent. This also gave it an 8.6 share of the monthly market
Tesla’s Model Y was second on 765, compared with just nine in June last year, and 4.4 per cent of the market.
The MG ZS was third with 624 units, fourth spot was claimed by Suzuki’s Swift with 605 registrations, while Mitsubishi’s Outlander came fifth on 569.
The RAV4 leads the year-to-date rankings after completing 4,026 registrations to gain a 6.6 slice of the market. The Swift is next on 2,606 registrations and 4.3 per cent over the past six months.
Toyota was the top-selling marque in June on 3,187 units, which was up 149.6 per cent from 1,277 in the same month a year ago. Its share of last month’s new passenger-vehicle market came in at 18.4 per cent.
Kia was second on 1,927, jumping 37.3 per cent year-on-year to claim 11.1 per cent of the market.
Mitsubishi came third with 1,893 registrations, while Suzuki and Hyundai were next on 1,151 and 1,055, respectively.
Year-to-date, Toyota has registered 10,192 new passenger vehicles to give it a 16.7 per cent market share, followed by Kia on 6,437 and 10.5 per cent.
