New-vehicle sector grows 21.2%
There were 9,963 new passenger vehicles registered in June, which was up by 21.2 per cent from 8,221 units in the same month of last year.
Tesla’s Model Y, pictured, was the leading model last month after selling 908 units and accounting for 9.1 per cent of the market. Its total was up by 123.1 per cent from 407 registrations in June 2025.
Toyota’s RAV4 and Corolla Cross were next on 821 and 309 sales, or market shares of 8.2 per cent and 3.1 per cent, respectively.
The RAV4’s total was up by 5.4 per cent from 779 units a year ago, while registrations of the Corolla Cross increased by 361.2 per cent from 67.
Kia’s Sportage was the fourth best-seller in June with 303 units, up from 93, and the Ford Everest completed the top five after its sales rose from 204 to 295. Both those models had a three per cent market share last month.
June’s overall tally for new-vehicle registrations was up 22.1 per cent from 8,159 in May this year and delivered back-to-back monthly rises for the sector. It was also 40.2 per cent higher than the 7,105 units sold in April.
There have been 51,407 sales year-to-date, which is up by 15.4 per cent from 44,534 at the same stage a year ago.
The RAV4 is the best-selling model so far in 2026 with 3,219 sales and a 6.3 per cent market share. The Model Y is second on 1,908 and 3.7 per cent.
Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in June with 1,770 registrations – up 16.2 per cent from 1,523 in the same month last year– and 17.8 per cent of the market.
Kia was second with 957 sales and 9.6 per cent and Tesla came third on 936 and 9.4 per cent.
Toyota is the leading marque year-to-date with 8,740 registrations and a 17 per cent slice of the market.
Next is Kia with 4,538 registrations and 8.8 per cent, and Mitsubishi on 4,224 and 8.2 per cent.
