New sedan embraces hybrid power
The new Lexus ES sedan will only be available with a hybrid powertrain in New Zealand as the marque strives to decarbonise its fleet.
Consumers will be able to choose from three variants of the 2022 ES 300h, a standard grade model, a performance-focused F Marque ES 300h F Sport, and the ES 300h Limited, which boasts more controllable seating and rear air conditioning.
Andrew Davis, Lexus NZ general manager, says hybrid powertrains are key to the marque’s electrification strategy, which is closely aligned to the government’s long-term plans to decarbonise the nation’s fleet.
“Lexus is determined to offer New Zealanders a range of premium vehicles that suit local driving conditions and provide a steppingstone to a zero-carbon future,” he adds.
By 2025, Lexus plans to introduce 20 new or improved models worldwide, including more than 10 battery electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid models.
Highlights of the ES 300h include a new signature Lexus spindle grille, and the standard grade’s alloy wheels feature a new V formation spoke design, while those on the F Sport have a premium gloss black finish.
Engineers have modified the rear suspension to improve handling, stability and ride comfort. All grades also have an improved brake pedal pad and electronically controlled braking system to enhance the braking feel.
The F Sport version adds a new actuator to the AVS damper to make the vehicle more responsive to low damping forces, which delivers better ride comfort, improved steering response and stability.
Safety features on the standard grade model now include intersection turn assistance, emergency steering assist added to the pre-collision system, curve speed reduction added to the all-speed dynamic radar cruise control and a rear seatbelt reminder.
Meanwhile, the F Sport version adds a panoramic view monitor and pedestrian intelligent clearance sonar safety features.
On the inside, all models receive a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia display, the two rear USB ports have been changed to illuminated C-type ports, and the ES 300h Limited boasts a Mark Levinson premium audio system with 17 speakers.
Two exterior colours, basalt mica and platinum silver, have been replaced by sonic shade and sonic iridium. There is also a new interior colour, hazel, available in synthetic leather for the standard grade.
The F Sport grade is available with black and flare red synthetic leather, while the Limited grade is available with black and rich cream semi-aniline accented leather.
Pricing for the Lexus ES 300h starts at $78,100.
