New record at Green Hell

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has set a record to become the Nurburgring’s fastest electric production car.
It has lapped what’s dubbed as the “Green Hell” in Germany in 7m 04.95s, which is three-tenths better than the previous record set by Rimac’s Nivera and chops 2.5s off the time set by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
The Xiaomi foreshadowed its strong showing last year, when a prototype clocked up a best lap of 6m 46.87s. That car was nowhere close to production specification but was still three seconds quicker than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
The SU7 Ultra’s internals are strong. It’s three electric motors produce 1,138.7kW and the car makes the 0-100kph dash in 1.97s.
It boasts Ultra sports Pirelli P Zero tyres and stoppers from AP Racing. Combined with the 500kg weight deficit to the standard car courtesy of lots of carbon, and a new aero kit that generates more than 2.1 tonnes of downforce at peak speeds, the SU7 Ultra lives up to the second half of its name.
