New EV charger welcomed

An electric vehicle fast charger has opened at New World Morrinsville for customers to top up as they shop. The charger is a result of strong collaboration between ChargeNet, Foodstuffs, EECA and Powerco.

New World Morrinsville owner operator Shaun Woodmass says Foodstuffs is committed to sustainable practices and promoting the uptake of clean energy transport.

“We’re creating a one-stop shop with this electric car fast charger conveniently located at our Morrinsville store,” says Woodmass.

Matamata-Piako District Mayor Jan Barnes says she is excited by the development.

"I am delighted Shaun and his team at New World Morrinsville have taken the initiative and given Morrinsville another point of difference! Shop, recharge, and enjoy," says Barnes.

There are now over 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) registered in New Zealand and a growing network of charging stations available.

ChargeNet is continuously strengthening the charger infrastructure in New Zealand, to enable EV owners to go further.

They now have over 115 operating charging stations and by the end of 2018, nearly 50 at New World, PAK’nSAVE, and Four Square stores around the country will have electric vehicle charging stations.
