New car sales edge up

Registrations of new cars totalled 11,491 last month, which was an increase of 3.1 per cent on 11,146 during the same month of 2022.
Toyota’s RAV4 was the best-selling model on 1,419 units, an increase of 148.9 per cent from a year ago when just 570 were sold. This gave it a market share of 12.3 per cent last month.
Second place went to the Mitsubishi Outlander, pictured, with 557, down from 596 in November last year, and Tesla’s Model Y was third as its numbers slipped from 1,098 to 544 over the same timeframe.
The Toyota Corolla and MG4 completed the top five with 486 and 468 registrations respectively.
The sector’s year-to-date total is 101,870 – down by 5.5 per cent versus 107,793 by this time in 2022.
Top of the pile so far this year is the RAV4 with 8,316 registrations and a market share of 8.2 per cent.
Suzuki’s Swift is next with 3,700 and the Outlander has 3,698, giving them both a 3.6 per cent share of trade over the past 11 months.
On the marque’s ladder, Toyota was in pole position last month on 3,019 registrations and a 26.3 per cent market share.
Second place went to Mitsubishi with 1,068 and 9.3 per cent, with MG third on 898 and 7.8 per cent.
Toyota is well ahead of its rivals year-to-date and its 20,176 units accounted for 19.8 per cent of the market.
Kia is next with 9,667 and 9.5 per cent, Mitsubishi on 9,574 and 9.4 per cent, Hyundai with 6,714 and 6.6 per cent, and Suzuki completes the top five after 6,479 sales for a 6.4 per cent share.
