Mustang on top of world

Ford’s Mustang has scooped two global sales crowns, clinching the honour for the world’s best-selling sports car and also winning the best-selling sports coupe title for the fifth consecutive year.

The model sold 102,090 units worldwide in 2019, according to the most recent new vehicle registration data from IHS Markit, making it the best-selling sports car.

During this period, Mustang sales in Germany increased 33 per cent, in Poland sales rose by nearly 50 per cent, and in France, they nearly doubled. It is also the best-selling sports car of the past 50 years in the US.

Last year, the Mustang was also the best-selling sports coupe in the world, according to IHS Markit, with the sector covering two-door and convertible models.

“We’re proud of our growing Mustang stable and performance variants,” says Jim Farley, chief operating officer at Ford Motor Company. “From Sweden to Shanghai, more and more driving enthusiasts are enjoying the feeling of freedom and the American open road in these new Mustangs.”
