The MTA is warning drivers to not to try and cut their petrol costs by using a lower octane petrol than their vehicle requires.

The Motor Trade Association (MTA) is warning drivers to not to try and cut their petrol costs by using a lower octane petrol than their vehicle requires.
Industry Relationships Manager Greig Epps says MTA has heard of a few cases of people using 91 unleaded instead of 95 or 98 octane as a way to save money since the recent price increases.
“But all you are doing is buying a tankful of trouble and it won’t save money in the long run. Your car’s performance will drop, it will use more fuel to drive, and if you keep using the wrong octane, you’ll eventually damage the engine.”
