Group celebrates sales boost

BMW Group New Zealand has announced its sales for the first half of 2025 increased by 29 per cent from the same period last year.

The company’s BMW and Mini brands sold 1,446 units in the latest six-month spell. Of that total, BMW completed 937 sales for a 23 per cent jump and Mini sold 509 for a 40 per cent rise.

Notable performers for BMW included the iX1, up 63 per cent, the X2, climbing 119 per cent, the 1 Series, rising 12 per cent, and the new X3 recording 83 per cent growth.

The group notes the BMW X line-up has been bolstered by the addition of the X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the first quarter and will be strengthened further with the imminent introduction of the entry-level X3 20 xDrive petrol variant.

Meanwhile, Mini has introduced a raft of new products in the past 12 months and its new generation model portfolio features petrol and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

BEV models performed strongly for BMW and Mini between January and June, with their combined 396 registrations a 146 per cent increase on the first half of 2024.

It means 27 per cent of all BMW Group models registered in New Zealand in the first half of this year were fully electric.

BMW M models accounted for a similar percentage of the marque’s first-half sales, with their 24.1 per cent of all BMW vehicles the second highest rate in the world.

The New Zealand group says its high-performance line-up will be bolstered this year with the introduction of the new M2 CS and the first M3 CS Touring.

Adam Shaver, who is leaving his role as managing director to take a global position with the BMW Group in Munich, paid tribute to staff, the BMW and Mini dealer network and customers, for their support in delivering the positive results.

“This impressive outcome in the first half of 2025 is acknowledgment of our engaging BMW and Mini vehicles that appeal to a wide spectrum of buyers thanks to our technology openness strategy where there is a drive system for everyone, from petrol to dual motor, fully electric,” says Shaver, pictured.

“However, compelling product requires the appropriate support of our people across the board, and we have this in great depth, both from those who work in our Auckland head office to our valued staff in the dealer network across the country.

“It is with immense pride that I depart this market – and a country of which I am very fond – in a healthy state and on a footing for ongoing success and growth.”

Francois Roca has replaced Shaver as managing director, with his new appointment effective as of July 1.
