The owner of a 2018 Tesla Model S has clocked up a major milestone – 800,000km in his car.

It was back in July 2021 that the odometer on Nigel Raynard’s EV passed the 400,000km and he reached 700,000km last year.

The car has had one change of its 75kWh battery pack, under warrant at 666,666km, but Raynard says it drives like new.

He told The Driven the only problems now are those that are taxing engineers because they haven’t encountered them before, such as a blower fan for the air-conditioning system.

“The Model S is at the point where anything that fails is a first for the Tesla techs,” says Raynard,” who owns a limousine service in Byron Bay, Australia.

He’s so enamoured with the marque that he has bought five more Teslas to add to his fleet.

Raynard now owns a Model 3 Performance with 145,000km on the clock, a Model Y Performance (160,000km) and a Model 3 Highland (36,000km). He has just added a 2019 Model X.

He believes the Model S has saved his business around AU$20,000 a year in fuel and maintenance – it has basically paid for itself and is still worth a lot of money.

Raynard’s car is on its second set of brake pads – the originals at the front were changed at 460,000km and the rear one at 770,000km.
