Model enters third generation

Mazda Motors of New Zealand has announced range details for its all-new CX-5, which is due to be launched here in the second half of the year.

The model, now in its third generation, made its debut in 2012 and has become Mazda’s most popular vehicle in the local range.

Updated elements for the car include the Signature Wing front grille being flanked by LED headlights with a two-tiered DRL lighting signature.

It is powered by Mazda’s SkyActiv-G 2.5 four-cylinder engine, producing 132kW of power and 242Nm of torque, and paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive (AWD).

Mazda notes the latest CX-5 delivers improved fuel efficiency and fewer carbon dioxide emissions than its predecessor, and the powertrain has been updated to provide a more intuitive interaction between driver inputs and vehicle response.

Mazda Intelligent Drive Select allows the driver to choose between normal, sport and off-road drive modes, which can optimise the performance of transmission and AWD system for varying conditions.

Inside, CX-5 is quieter than the outgoing model and technology features include a large driver's display, an available head-up display projected on the windscreen and either a 12.9-inch or 15.6-inch centre infotainment display, depending on grade.

The all-new CX-5 will be available in four different grades, these are:

CX-5 Touring

The entry point to the CX-5, the Touring is fitted with standard 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights for improved safety and visibility and privacy glass.

Inside, an eight-speaker stereo system is paired to a 12.9-inch touchscreen display Mazda Connect infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There is also Qi wireless mobile phone charging, dual-zone climate control and cloth-covered seats with heating for front occupants.

CX-5 SP

The SP offers a step-up in design and standard equipment from the Touring, such as 19-inch alloy wheels in a black and machined finish, and gloss black roof rails and an electrically operated tailgate.

The driver’s seat includes electric adjustment, and all seats are covered in a deluxe leatherette trim. Mazda’s full colour active driving display system projects vital information onto the windscreen and a heated steering wheel and heated windscreen are further highlights.

CX-5 Homura

The Homura stands out with the use of black gloss contrasting elements on the exterior. Its 19-inch wheels are in a black metallic finish, similarly the bumper trims and wheelarch mouldings. For the first time in a CX-5, there is also a panoramic sunroof.

Other features include leather seat trim, the passenger seat is electrically adjustable, the outer rear seats are heated and there is a 12-speaker Bose system.

Driver-assistance systems include a 360-view monitor with see-through view to give an improved perspective of surroundings from the driver’s seat.

CX-5 Takami

Headlining the CX-5 range, this version has an electrically operated tailgate, the standard 12.9-inch touch display is swapped for a 15.6-inch display, and paddle shifters to control transmission gear changes are added behind the steering wheel.

It also features leather seating in an exclusive sport tan colour, with the front seats gaining a ventilation function. A driver personalisation system, first seen on the flagship CX-90, assists the driver in automatically adjusting their mirrors and seating position.
