Mini has commemorated the 60th anniversary of its legendary victory at the 1966 Gallaher 500 race at Mount Panorama Circuit, Bathurst.

The iconic motorsport moment saw the Morris Mini Cooper S, driven by Australian Bob Holden and Finnish rally legend Rauno Aaltonen, secure an outright win and dominate the field with Minis filling the first nine grid positions.

To celebrate the milestone, Mini brought together owners, enthusiasts and club members, and 25 classic and new models took to the famous circuit for a special lap of honour last weekend.

The marque’s handling, agility and race-bred character were proven throughout the 1960s on tracks down under with multiple class wins and strong performances across touring car racing, rallying and hill climbs. Minis continue to compete in historic racing events and club motorsport competitions.
