McLaughlin Mustang going under hammer

A special car created for Scott McLaughlin to help celebrate Ford Mustang’s debut in the Supercars Championship is being sold at a charity auction.

The unique Ford Mustang GT Fastback was driven by the Kiwi star at the Superloop Adelaide 500 in March 2019.

He raced the modified road-going Mustang, which still bears his name, in a speed comparison around the Adelaide street circuit alongside Ford legends Dick Johnson and Marcos Ambrose.

The special Mustang is being auctioned through Shannons.com.au with proceeds going to the children’s cancer charity Camp Quality.

McLaughlin, a three-time Supercars champion and Bathurst winner for Shell V-Power Racing Team, says he recalls the car “rode the kerbs really well”.

“Sharing the track with two Ford legends like Dick and Marcos was a hell of an experience and one I'll never forget,” he adds. “To now see the car being auctioned with all proceeds going to Camp Quality is just awesome.”

The Mustang features a 5L V8 engine, producing 229kW and 556Nm, and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. There are also a number of custom modifications from Herrod Performance and 19-inch forged aluminium alloys.

The online auction closes at 9pm (NZT) on October 28.
