McLaughlin grabs podium spot
Scott McLaughlin has secured his sixth podium finish of the IndyCar season after finishing third in a rain-interrupted race at the World Wide Technology Raceway.
He had taken the lead shortly before the race on the short oval outside St Louis was stopped for rain and lightning with 43 laps remaining.
After a delay of more than two hours, the action resumed with 36 laps to go but McLaughlin was soon passed by his Penske teammate Josef Newgarden, who went on to take the chequered flag.
McLaughlin, pictured, dropped down one further spot when he was overtaken on the final lap by rookie David Malukas.
The New Zealander, who is in his second season of IndyCar, remains sixth in the drivers’ championship and is only 54 points behind leader Will Power.
Meanwhile, Scott Dixon finished the race on August 22 (NZ time) in eighth spot and slipped from second to third in the overall standings.
There are only two more races left in the 2022 campaign, with the drivers next in action on the road course at Portland on September 5 (NZT).
