Mazda’s CX-30 builds ‘connection’ with drivers

Mazda has bolstered its SUV line-up with a new model that the marque says is ideal for adventures in and out of town.

The First-Ever Mazda CX-30 is described as mixing SUV practicality with coupe-like styling and fits into the small SUV segment, sitting between the brand’s CX-3 and CX-5 in size. It is the fifth SUV to join the Mazda New Zealand range.

David Hodge, Mazda New Zealand managing director, says the new model boasts the most advanced technology and “reinforces the company’s focus on the enjoyment of driving”.

“The First-Ever Mazda CX-30 applies dynamic lessons learned from Mazda3, employing state-of-the-art Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture with high-tech G-Vectoring Control Plus to deliver a handling that gives drivers ultimate confidence and a closer connection to the vehicle,” he adds.

“It offers the best of both worlds, giving roominess and ample cargo space for around town and out-of-town adventures.”

Integral to the drive experience is Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus, which uses brake and engine control to help the vehicle respond to sudden steering inputs and improve stability.

Mazda claims its new-generation Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture also provides a dampening structure that reduces vibration and noise from the road.

The Skyactiv-G 2.0L and 2.5L petrol engines incorporate technologies that aim to improve torque at low-med rev range and improves fuel economy at the top end.

The GTX and Limited models feature Mazda’s i-Activ AWD system, which has 27 sensors that monitor environmental and vehicle conditions at a computation rate of 200 times per second to predict traction requirements before wheel slip occurs.

On the safety front, the First-Ever Mazda CX-30 achieved a near-perfect 99 per cent in adult occupant protection and a five-star rating from Ancap. Safety technology that is standard across the range includes blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist system, rear cross traffic alert, reversing camera, traffic sign recognition and smart brake support.

Available in eight exterior colours and three models – the GSX and GTX grades sport a black/grey cloth trim with a navy/black cabin theme, while the Limited grade offers a black leather trim with a black cabin theme.

Inside, the CX-30 also features the new Mazda Connect infotainment system and an 8.8-inch wide-screen centre display.

Pricing for the First-Ever Mazda CX-30 range starts from $41,490.
