Massive result for used imports

The number of used passenger vehicles imported in New Zealand last month came to 16,272. It was the second biggest month recorded after 17,473 crossed the border in April. 

The statistics for June brought the year-to-date total to 80,157 units, which was down by 8,932 units – or by 10.03 per cent, by the same time in 2017.

June was also the second biggest month of the year for used cars coming in from Japan with last month’s total being 15,642, which compared to 16,801 units in April. Last month’s total was an increase of 7.4 per cent compared to 14,566 in the same month of last year.  

Japan’s year-to-date market share is 93.75 per cent with its year-to-date total down from 15,642 units in 2017 to 14,506 in 2018.

Australia took out second spot with 340 units – this is the joint-lowest total of the year for Australia. Its total for June was down from 475 units in June 2018 for a decline of 28.4 per cent. 

There were 99 used imported passenger vehicles from Singapore – a monthly low for 2018.

Fourth spot went to the US with 89 and the UK was in fifth place with 70, down from 143 in June 2017, a tumble of 51 per cent.
