Marque’s EV sales soar

BYD closed the gap on its rival Tesla after a 21 per cent rise in second-quarter global electric vehicle (EV) sales, according to new figures from Reuters.

The news agency’s number crunching shows China’s BYD sold 426,039 units in the April-June quarter.

This was nearly 18,000 fewer EVs than Tesla managed in the same period, but closer than the more than the 86,000-unit-gap between the marques in the prior quarter.

Tesla’s second-quarter deliveries fell by 4.8 per cent to 443,956 vehicles, the first time the US brand has posted two straight quarters of decline, reports Reuters.
