Marque expanding network

Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand (MMNZ) is expanding its national dealer network with plans to open new sites in Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast and Sockburn in Christchurch.

Reece Congdon, head of marketing and corporate affairs, says the sites have been chosen as they are located in areas of strong growth.

“The population in Christchurch is projected to increase by 20 per cent in the coming two decades, while the Kapiti region has grown significantly with an 18.7 per cent bump in population [over the past] 15 years. With the imminent opening of Transmission Gully, which will create an unbroken highway connection to Wellington, this growth is only set to continue.”

Mike Morrison, who already runs a Mitsubishi dealership in Ashburton, is due to bring the marque to Sockburn in mid-October with a new sales and servicing facility, pictured.

“Since joining the Mitsubishi family in 2020 with their Ashburton dealership, Mike and the team have been very strong performers,” explains Congdon.

“We’ve been impressed with their connection to the local community and are very pleased with the positive feedback we’ve been receiving from their customers. We’re thrilled to have them represent our brand in Sockburn.”

Morrison says his company feels privileged to have the “opportunity to represent Mitsubishi in the south of the city”.

Brent and Rachel Delaney, pictured below, run Delaney Mitsubishi Kapiti in Paraparaumu, which has been a parts and service dealership for the marque but will now also offer new-vehicle sales.

Brent says: “We feel extremely proud to have been given the opportunity to represent Mitsubishi as a full sales dealer in our home district on the Kapiti Coast.

“Having been a Mitsubishi parts and service dealer for the past 15 years, and having witnessed the huge growth of the Mitsubishi brand in New Zealand and locally, we are really excited to expand the scope of our operation.”

The couple are five-time consecutive Diamond Dealer winners, the annual awards run by MMNZ to recognise high achievers in its network.

Congdon adds: “The Delaneys’ winning streak is testament to their unwavering focus on exceptional customer service and support. We have no doubt in their ability to extend that care and expertise to new vehicle sales.”

The expansion of MMNZ’s reach comes after the company has recently achieved record-breaking sales and is the second most popular new vehicle brand in New Zealand in the year-to-date figures, with a 12.8 per cent market share.

In September, the company experienced its highest month of sales for the outgoing Outlander model, with 851 sold across the range.
